Oasis of Castel di Guido

Castel di Guido is located within a nature reserve called “Macchia Grande“,

unspoiled, rich evergreen vegetation,

typical of the Mediterranean,

but also a refuge for native wildlife.



The reserve is called the “Macchia grande”

because, with its 280 acres of protected land mass, is the largest green space around the city of Rome.


Castel di Guido also boasts the presence

of a office of L.i.p.u.

(Italian League for Bird Protection),  a herd of donkeys, several farms with own production of local products,

such as extra virgin olive oil,

cow’s milk, donkey milk (only recently discovered to be the more digestible milk

for humans, because of its similar composition to breast milk),

buffalo mozzarella, wine produced from local grapes, beef, horse meat, berry jams, vegetables collected and sold directly from local farmers, and so on.


Paleontological deposits It is newly discovered (approximately 20 years ago) the Polledrara of Cecanibbio, one of the richest paleontological deposits in Italy, by extension and richness of the finds, with remains of saber-toothed

tigers and Mammoth, dating back to period of the Pleistocene.



To reach Rome city centre,

( rent a room in Rome ) Villa Chauvet is well connected by car through the Via Aurelia,

which allows you to access eg the Basilica of St. Peter in 15 minutes.

There is also a practical public transport,

several buses, that depart from Rome

and arrive near the Villa Chauvet.
